NEW YORK, May 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened sharply lower on Monday as investors monitored the latest development of global trade.
Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 470.24 points, or 1.81 percent, to 25,472.13. The S&P 500 fell 50.49 points, or 1.75 percent, to 2,830.91. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 177.57 points, or 2.24 percent, to 7,739.37.
Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded lower, with the consumer discretionary sector down around 2.81 percent, leading the losers.
Trade bellwether Caterpillar declined 4.12 percent to trade at 125.93 U.S. dollars apiece. Apple shares were erased 5.12 percent in the early trading while Boeing stock prices dropped 2.94 percent. Enditem
