SOCHI, Russia -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed on Monday to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between the two countries.
At a meeting here with Lavrov, Wang recalled that Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing last month. (China-Russia-Relations)

GHAZNI, Afghanistan -- At least 15 Taliban militants have been killed, five wounded and three others arrested in eastern Afghan province of Ghazni, the military said Tuesday.
"Afghan Special Operations Forces conducted operations in Shely locality of Andar district and Shinkai area of Gelan district on Monday. The security forces received hostile fire during the mission and returned fire, killing 13 enemy combatants," the army Corps 203 Tandar based in the region said in a statement. WASHINGTON -- A top U.S. defense official had presented an updated military plan which envisions sending up to 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or speed up work on nuclear weapons, The New York Times reported on Monday.
The updated plan, presented by acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, was ordered by hardliners led by National Security Adviser John Bolton, reported the paper, citing anonymous sources. (US-Iran-Military Plan)

SEOUL -- More than half of South Korean people called for the government's pursuit of dialogue and compromise with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), topping 50 percent for the first time, the state-run think tank survey showed Tuesday.
