EU allocates 1.5 mln euros for tourism development in BiH

SARAJEVO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) has allocated 1.5 million euros (1.68 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to support the development of the country's tourism, Delegation of the EU to BiH official website stated on Tuesday.

The money will be allocated via grants for "partnerships dealing with the development of touristic products, access to international markets and utilization of information and communications technology (ICT)".

During the presentation of the "EU4Business project" on Tuesday in BiH's capital Sarajevo, Acting Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the EU to BiH Nicolas Bizel said that the EU has supported the development of tourism sector in BiH with some 7 million euros earlier.

Bizel added that money is allocated for adventurous tourism, eco zones, cultural and natural trails.

The aim of the project is to strengthen BiH capacity for generating growth and employment through the development of competitiveness and innovation in selected sectors.

Nils Wetzel, project manager from the EU4Business, underlined that "more than 30 local businesses will improve their tourist offers, which should result in an increase in sales and income, and in more than 50 new jobs".

EU4Business project, of a total worth of 16.1 million euros, jointly funded by the EU with 15 million euros and Germany 1.1 million euros, is intended to last until March 2022. (1 euro=1.12 U.S. dollars) Enditem
