TOKYO, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday as weak U.S. retail sales data for April set a negative tone early on with investor sentiment also dented by concerns over the future course of the global economy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 125.58 points, or 0.59 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,062.98.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 6.6 points, or 0.43 percent, to finish at 1,537.55.
Securities house, oil and coal product, and electric appliance-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play. Enditem
