LOS ANGELES -- The deadliest and most destructive fire in the history of western U.S. state of California was caused by faulty electrical transmission lines, said investigators with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) on Wednesday.

The devastating Camp Fire starting on the morning of Nov. 8, 2018 killed at least 85 people, scorched 153,336 acres (620 square km) and destroyed over 18,000 buildings after burning more than two weeks. (US-California Fire)

WASHINGTON -- Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has expanded his lead over his rivals for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination since he entered the race last month, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed.

Twenty-nine percent of Democrats and independents said they would vote for Biden, up from 24 percent who said so in a poll that ran in late April, days before Biden announced his bid, according to the latest poll released on Wednesday. (US-Biden)

WASHINGTON -- Restricting Huawei from doing business in the United States will not make the country more secure or stronger but eventually harm "the interests of U.S. companies and consumers," Huawei said Wednesday in a media statement sent to Xinhua.

Huawei made the statement after the U.S. Department of Commerce announced to add Huawei and its affiliates to the Entity List of the department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), restricting the sale or transfer of American technology to the enlisted company. (US-Huawei)

SEOUL -- Foreign currency deposit in South Korea hit the lowest in 28 months as companies sold the U.S. dollar funds for the local currency amid the strong dollar trend, central bank data showed Thursday.

Foreign currency deposit, possessed by residents, amounted to 63.2 billion dollars as of end-April, down 3.95 billion dollars from a month earlier, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).
