WINDHOEK, May 16 (Xinhua) -- The Namibian government has allocated some 57 million Namibian dollars (about 4 million U.S. dollars) towards the procurement and distribution of textbooks in schools for the 2019/20 financial year.
Sanet Steenkamp, executive director for the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, said on Thursday that the ministry made budgetary provisions for teaching and learning resource materials in order to effectively carry out its mandate based on the needs for the fiscal year.
"Government has been making efforts to ensure that all our education programs, including school activities, are appropriately funded," Steenkamp said.
The allocation is also set to address a shortage of learning and resource materials as the country is to accelerate efforts geared towards the delivery of inclusive and quality education.
The government allocated about 13.7 billion Namibian dollars to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture for the 2019/20 financial year. Enditem
