LUSAKA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in Zambia major media outlets on Saturday.
-- The Chinese community has rewarded three Zambian students with one year school fees for providing first aid and taking to hospital six Chinese and one Zambian involved in a road accident in Lusaka, the country's capital last month.
The Zambia-China Association said the association felt duty bound to recognize and reward the three students with school fees in appreciation of their altruistic conduct. (Times of Zambia)
-- The African Development Bank (AfDB) has this year allocated 700 million U.S. dollars to supporting private sector growth in Zambia.
Kapil Kapoor, the bank's director-general said the funds, which the private sector should take advantage of, are aimed at stimulating growth across the entire value chain. (Zambia Daily Mail)
-- The Zambian government said the current depreciation of the local currency could be as a result of negative sentiments because the economic fundamentals in terms of inflow and outflow of the foreign currency have not changed much to warrant the current situation.
