DUSHANBE -- Three guards and 29 inmates have been killed in a riot in a high-security prison east of the Tajik capital Dushanbe, local media quoted the Justice Ministry as saying on Monday.

The ministry said earlier that prisoners convicted of Islamic State membership had taken three prison guards hostage and killed them. The incident happened in the early hours of Monday in the prison currently holding around 1,500 people. (Tajikistan-Riot-Prison)

HANOI -- The seventh session of the 14th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, kicked off here on Monday, focusing on reviewing and adopting draft laws.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- At least 11 people were shot and killed in a bar in Brazil's northern state of Para on Sunday, police said.

The shooting took place Sunday afternoon in the neighborhood of Guama in the city of Belem when seven gunmen arrived at the bar and began shooting. They killed six women, among them the bar's owner, and five men, according to the Military Police.
