WASHINGTON, May 21 (Xinhua) -- A 17-year-old student from a rural area in the U.S. heartland is set to graduate from Harvard days after receiving his high school diploma this month, ABC News reported on Tuesday.

Braxton Moral will receive his undergraduate degree from Harvard Extension School on May 30 after graduating from high school on Sunday in Ulysses, Kansas, said the report.

The boy has been taking classes from Harvard since he was 11 years old through the Harvard Extension School, which allows students without certain prerequisites to enroll in programs so long as they can prove they're able to perform by way of trial classes, testing and administration voting on your admission, according to the report.

Moral's first class he ever took at Harvard was a challenging JavaScript programming class. His favorite courses included Chinese language and Ancient Greek Hero -- a mythology class. The teenager completed some courses online and took others at Harvard's campus over the summer.

He will receive his Bachelor of Liberal Arts (ALB) degree granted by Harvard Extension School. The degree is distinct from the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree granted by Harvard College, one of the schools that makes up Harvard University.

"I'm relieved to have a little bit of a head start," Moral told "Good Morning America." "I thought it really broadened my horizons. It helped me understand new things and what I want to do [in life]."

"Harvard Extension School allows people to take classes for development, for fun," Moral said, adding that it took him six years to finish the degree majoring in government with a minor in English.

Moral also wrote a book called "Harvard in the Heartland" about his experience as a Harvard Extension student in the rural Kansas. He plans to attend law school next where he hopes to study constitutional law at his first choice school, Columbia University, ABC reported.

According to the Harvard Extension School website, the ALB degree is designed for adult professionals with years of work experience who wish to complete their degrees part time, both on campus and online. The school's typical student is 30 years old, has previously completed one or two years of college, and works full time. Enditem
