NEW DELHI -- The Indian Election Commission (ECI) has finalized arrangements and security measures in and around the counting centres a day ahead of the vote counting for India's 17th general elections across the country, officials said here Wednesday.

The counting of votes is scheduled on Thursday across India. According to officials, the counting will start at 8:00 a.m. (local time) and is likely to be completed by late evening. (India-Election)

TOKYO -- Police in Tokyo said Wednesday they have arrested a man in his sixties on suspicion of aiming a laser pointer at a U.S. military aircraft flying close to the Yokota Air Base in the outskirts of the capital.

Police said they arrested Yoshinori Shigekawa, 60, for allegedly pointing a green laser beam at a C-130J transport plane at around 6:30 p.m. local time on Feb. 11 as it was flying in the vicinity of the base. (Japan-U.S.-Military)

TAKEO, Cambodia -- Cambodia celebrated a traditional royal ploughing ceremony here on Wednesday to mark the annual beginning of farming season.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, along with high-profile figures and foreign diplomats, took part in the event, which was held in Takeo province's Daun Keo town, about 86 km south of Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia. (Cambodia-Ploughing ceremony)

SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Wednesday that his government will foster the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors as the country's new economic growth driver, aiming to triple the export and the global market share of pharmaceutical products and medical instruments by 2030.

Moon made the remark during his ninth "regional economic tour" to Osong, North Chungcheong province located at the center of the country, which is home to biotech-related research centers and institutions.
