NEW YORK, May 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday as market sentiment was dented by renewed concerns over global trade tensions.
Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 86.08 points, or 0.33 percent, to 25,791.25. The S&P 500 was down 9.40 points, or 0.33 percent, to 2,854.96. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 32.81 points, or 0.42 percent, to 7,752.91.
Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded on a downbeat note in the morning session, with both consumer discretionary and energy down about 0.6 percent, leading the laggards.
Trade bellwether Boeing stock fell 1 percent shortly after the opening. Caterpillar, another trade-sensitive stock, also declined.
Qualcomm shares plunged 9.4 percent in morning trading, weighing on the market.
Wall Street is also awaiting the release of the latest meeting minutes from the U.S. Federal Reserve, which is scheduled in the afternoon. Enditem
