ACCRA, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Ghana Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah on Wednesday named a 29-man provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for Egypt next month.

The list comprises 3 goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 11 midfielders and 5 strikers.

Captain Asamoah Gyan was named in the team after making a U-turn on his international retirement following a telephone conversation with Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Ahead of the tournament, the selected players will depart here on June 1 to limber up in Dubai where the final 23 players will be disclosed.

The Black Stars are in Group F of the AFCON with Cameroon, Benin, and Guinea Bissau.

The 2019 AFCON, with its new 24-team format, will be held from June 21 to July 19. Enditem
