WINDHOEK, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's rugby team coach, Phil Davies Thursday said for the past month, his team used the SuperSport Challenge and premiership matches to develop closer links with club players and coaches in order to ultimately support Namibia's World Cup build-up.

Davies in a statement ahead of a match against South African, outfit the Leopards slated for Saturday in Windhoek, said the key outcome from the working collaboration has been to build a playing and management team.

"As the coach, my intention has consistently been to work in collaboration with club coaches and players, in order to extend the talent pool available," he added.

Davies looks forward to further extending the pool of talent during these final SuperSport Challenge matches and during the upcoming Nations Cup, in order to finalize and select his preliminary World Cup squad on June. 20.

"These next few weeks are a fantastic opportunity for all players involved to stake a claim for the 50-man squad," Davies added.

Meanwhile Namibia's 'Welwitschias' will depart for the Nations Cup on May 31, where a strong line-up featuring Argentina XV, Russia and hosts Uruguay will take part. Enditem
