JAKARTA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese firms operating in Indonesia view Ramadan as a good opportunity to fulfill their social responsibilities, which will bring closer relations between the firms and the Indonesian people, Chairman of China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia Gong Bencai said here on Thursday.

Speaking in the fast-breaking event with orphans from an East Jakarta landmark mosque here, Gong said that Ramadan brings a moment for the Chinese firms to share warmth with local communities through social events held during the fasting month.

"As economic and trade relations between China and Indonesia go deeper at present, more Chinese firms have participated in the efforts to vibrate the economy and development in the regions," Gong said.

Those Ramadan activities are highly expected to improve communications between the firms and local communities, he added.

Besides opening more jobs for local people, the Chinese firms also bring technology and investment into the country.

Apart from social activities during Ramadan, the Chinese firms have also provided social responsibility programs in education, medical care, health and public facilities for residents around their operation sites.

In the fast breaking with the orphans in the mosque, Gong gave 1,000 gifts to the children. Enditem
