RIO DE JANEIRO, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian midfielder Ricardo Goulart is set to return to China's Guangzhou Evergrande ahead of schedule after agreeing to rescind his loan deal with Palmeiras.
The Chinese Super League club persuaded the 27-year-old to leave the reigning Brazilian champions seven months earlier than planned by offering him a five-year contract extension and a pay rise, according to widespread press reports in Brazil.
Goulart has not played since suffering a right knee injury in late April. He subsequently underwent surgery to repair meniscus damage and is not expected to return to full fitness until July.
The playmaker underwent keyhole surgery on the same knee late last year for an unrelated cartilage injury.
Capped once for Brazil's national team, Goulart is the only two-time winner of the Chinese Super League's player of the year award, having taken the accolade in 2015 and 2016. Enditem
