Pakistan's annual Shandur Polo Festival to begin from July 7

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's annual three-day Shandur Polo Festival will kick off at the world's highest polo ground at Shandur Pass in the Chitral district of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from July 7, local media reported Friday morning.

Local media quoted Secretary Tourism of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Kamran Rehman as saying that the Shandur Polo Festival will be organized in a befitting manner to attract a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to the scenic region and traditional game.

"The number of foreign and domestic tourists will be more as compared to the previous years because the condition of acquiring no objection certificate for the international tourists to visit the area had already been withdrawn," said the official, adding that the government authorities would provide boarding and lodging facilities to both foreign and domestic tourists.

According to the official, police and Pakistan Army and other institutions would provide their services to ensure the security of the venue as well as visitors at the site situated some 3,700 meters above the sea level.

Polo teams from Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral region would participate in the mega annual event followed by several traditional events.

"Local artisans and skilled entrepreneurs would also get an opportunity to showcase their products. Besides polo game, food stalls, traditional music and dances and adventurous activities in the gala," he added.

In addition to setting up camping village, rafting in the Shandur Lake, paragliding, archery and kite flying would be other features of the event. Enditem
