BEIJING -- China's major stock indices closed mixed Friday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.02 percent to close at 2,852.99 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 percent lower at 8,776.77 points.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.29 percent, or 9.17 points, to close at 3,169.89.

A total of 1.34 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 977.20 million Singapore dollars (about 709.40 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 145 to 214.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,598.32, down 3.55 points or 0.22 percent, and the Emas was at 11,187.92 down 21.81 points or 0.19 percent.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 86.80 points, or 0.32 percent, to 27,353.93 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,291.94 and 27,457.59. Turnover totaled 76.01 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.68 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- The benchmark Nikkei stock index closed lower Friday on continued concerns over the outlook for the global economy amid trade issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 33.92 points, or 0.16 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,117.22.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.73 percent lower on Friday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 56.94 points to 7,747.09. The all-share index went down by 27.41 points, or 0.57 percent, to 4,781.85.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dipped 14.28 points, or 0.69 percent, to settle at 2,045.31. Trading volume stood at 471 million shares worth 4.4 trillion won (3.7 billion U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped slightly by 0.4 percent to 10,222 on Friday.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished lower on Friday, with trade tensions weighing heavily on local shares and oil stocks plummeting.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 35.80 points or 0.55 percent at 6,456.00, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 38.70 points or 0.59 percent at 6,545.60.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved up 4.33 points, or 0.27 percent to close at 1,614.12 points.
