NUR-SULTAN, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced Friday that Kazakhstan and Turkey will increase bilateral trade turnover to 5 billion U.S. dollars.

"We intend to increase trade turnover between our countries to 5 billion US dollars and, if possible, to 10 billion US dollars," Cavusoglu told the press conference after the 5th meeting of Kazakhstan-Turkey Joint Strategic Planning Group held here.

"We will strengthen our bilateral cooperation and increase mutual investments. The first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have set clear goals for us and we must achieve them," he added.

Kazakh Foreign Minister Beibut Atamkulov stressed the need at the press conference to increase bilateral trade volume to 5 billion U.S. dollars, which was determined by presidents of the two countries.

"I am pleased to note that in the first quarter of this year, bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Turkey amounted to 632 million U.S. dollars, increased by 50 percent year on year," Atamkulov said.

"At present, more than 2,200 enterprises with Turkish investments are operating in various sectors in Kazakhstan," he added.

Cavusoglu visited Kazakhstan on May 23-24 to attend the 5th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Turkey Joint Strategic Planning Group. Enditem
