LISBON, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The voting for European parliament in Portugal concluded here at 7 p.m local time on Sunday, while two polls show the possibility of the highest ever abstention rate.
The estimate of the Catholic University for RTP (Portugal's national radio and television company) placed abstention rate of the vote on Sunday for the European parliament at between 65 and 70 percent, while the ICS/ISCTE/GFK/Metris ballot for SIC predicts 66.5 percent to 70.5 percent.
Five years ago, 33.91 percent of voters voted and abstention was 66.09 percent.
Elections registered a 23.37 percent turnout at 4 p.m local time, below the levels of the last elections (26.31 percent), according to data from the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Enditem
