BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.16 percent to close at 2,914.7 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.28 percent lower at 9,010.36 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Wednesday ahead of F&O expiry on May 30. Among the sectors, except IT all other indices are trading in the red led by PSU Bank, infra, auto, metal, energy, FMCG and pharma.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 39,502.05, 247.68 points or 0.62 percent down compared to its previous close at 39,749.73.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 12.68 points, or 0.78 percent to close at 1,619.36 points.

Some 15.38 billion shares worth 55.99 billion baht (about 1.77 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market fell on Wednesday with Fletcher Building and Precinct Properties New Zealand under pressure on news the Commercial Bay development is running behind schedule.

The S&P/NZX 50 Index decreased 26.85 points, or 0.27 percent, to 10,096.47. Within the index, 26 stocks fell, 20 grew, and four were unchanged. Turnover was 151.4 million New Zealand dollars.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,623.67, up 9.10 points or 0.56 percent, and the Emas was at 11,368.24, up 43.22 points or 0.38 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.06 percent, or 2.04 points, to close at 3,163.28.

A total of 1.13 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.04 billion Singapore dollars (about 752.04 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 215 to 153.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 155.10 points, or 0.57 percent, to 27,235.71 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,178.71 and 27,429.37. Turnover totaled 83.30 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 10.61 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Wednesday with an increase of 0.004 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 0.03 points, reaching 817 points after closing.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.47 percent higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 36.46 points to 7,797.75. The all-share index went up by 14.74 points, or 0.31 percent, to 4,804.79.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index up 1.15 points, or 0.19 percent, to close at 599.99.

Among the five trading stocks, only the price of garment manufacturer Grand Twins International (GTI) rose to 4,580 riel (1.13 U.S. dollars), the CSX said in a press release.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dipped 25.51 points, or 1.25 percent, to settle at 2,023.32. Trading volume stood at 368 million shares worth 4.6 trillion won (3.7 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday as the market here inherited a weak lead from Wall Street overnight, with investors still concerned about protracted trade issues clouding the outlook of global growth.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 256.77 points, or 1.21 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,003.37.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market slumped on Wednesday, with all sectors except for communication services trending firmly lower.
