VILNIUS, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The Lithuania President-elect Gitanas Nauseda will pay his first foreign visit as the president to neighboring Poland, the country's foreign minister announced on Wednesday.
"The first visit and its date has been set. It will be held on 16th July," foreign minister Linas Linkevicius told local media after meeting with Nauseda.
Linkevicius met with Nauseda to discuss the country's foreign policy.
According to Linkevicius, strategic changes in Lithuania's foreign policy are not to be expected after Nauseda takes the president's office, though "there could be tactical changes, nuances".
"Our stance is based on values and particular principles, and I think these arguments are clear to everyone," Linkevicius told journalists.
Earlier, Nauseda indicated to local media he would maintain dialogue with neighboring Belarus and would change the country's rhetoric towards Russia.
"Our position hasn't changed, and it remains to be seen how the dialogue would look like," added the foreign minister.
Nauseda's first foreign visit will be held 4 days following his inauguration.
Nauseda, 55, formerly an economist at one of the country's largest banks, will take the president's office on July 12. Enditem
