SARAJEVO, June 5 (Xinhua) -- First time in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have high-school students won three medals at an international competition in physics, BiH's Federal Association of Physicists confirmed on Wednesday.
At the European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO) held from May 31 to June 4 in Latvia's capital Riga, BiH young physicists won 3 bronze medals, BiH's Federal Association told Patria news agency.
During the theoretical round which last for 5 hours, students from 24 countries and regions had to answer on 3 problems and during the experimental examination, also 5 hours long, there were one or two tasks.
BiH's team consisted of 5 contestants and 2 team leaders, who competed in two rounds of an experimental exam and a theoretical exam, EuPhO official website said.
EuPhO is an annual contest for high school students not over 20 years old, in similar to real research situations, with short problems description and plenty of space for creative solutions which offer an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills in physics.
So far, young physicists from BiH have won one silver, four bronze medals and three honorable mentions in the European Physics Olympiad history. Enditem
