OTTAWA, June 6 (Xinhua) -- An unspecified number of Canadian citizens have been kidnapped in Ghana, local media reported on Thursday.

According to the Canadian news outlet CBC News, Global Affairs Canada (GAC), the department that handles Canada's diplomatic and consular relations, has confirmed earlier media reports of the kidnapping of Canadian citizens in Ghana.

However, GAC did not confirm any specifics about the incident, including the number of people abducted, said CBC News.

Ghanian media reported earlier that two Canadian women were kidnapped in the city of Kumasi in central Ghana. Enditem
