KIGALI, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Rwandan Prosecutor General Jean Bosco Mutangana on Thursday challenged neighboring Burundi on its commitment in dealing with fugitives of 1994's Rwandan genocide against Tutsi.

Burundi has not been cooperative in bringing to justice about 6,000 Burundians suspected to have participated in the genocide, Mutangana told a news briefing in Rwandan capital city Kigali.

Mutangana made the remarks after a meeting with Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor at Tanzania-based United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.

Several indictments issued against the Burundian suspects and sent to Burundi have been ignored, he said, adding that the prosecution is considering working with Interpol to arrest them once they travel out of their country.

Discussions between the two prosecutors focused on areas of cooperation in investigations of genocide fugitives and other areas of mutual interest.

Brammertz said Mutangana gave him an update on the status of tracking of genocide fugitives in the meeting.

The 1994's Rwandan genocide claimed the lives of about 1 million people, mainly ethnic Tutsi, in about three months. Enditem
