STOCKHOLM -- A heavy explosion occurred in southern Sweden on Friday morning and injured 25, local police said.

Shortly after 9:00 a.m. local time (0700 GMT), a powerful explosion took place in an apartment building containing private homes and company offices in central Linkoping, a city in southern Sweden.

At least 25 people were injured and several dwellings damaged, while the full extent of the damage is yet unclear and the cause has not been reported. (Sweden-Explosion)

CAIRO -- Egyptian security forces killed eight militants suspected in launching attack on a police checkpoint in northern Sinai where eight policemen died, the interior ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The number of militants killed has raised to 27 since the attack near the North Sinai provincial capital of al-Arish early on Wednesday, which Islamic State claimed responsibility for. (Egypt-Security-Sinai)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. employers added a lower-than-expected 75,000 jobs in May, and the unemployment rate remained at 3.6 percent, the lowest level since December 1969, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

Job gains continued to trend up in professional and business services and in health care, the bureau said.

May's total nonfarm payroll employment is up from the downwardly revised April number of 224,000, it said. The March figure has also been revised down from 189,000 to 153,000, the data showed. (US-Unemployment)

MOSCOW -- Russian anti-submarine destroyer Admiral Vinogradov managed to avoid a collision with U.S. guided-missile cruiser Chancellorsville in the East China Sea on Friday, with the latter conducting a dangerous maneuver, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The incident occurred earlier on Friday at 6:35 a.m. local time (0335 GMT), according to a statement of the Russian Pacific Fleet, published by the ministry's official news agency Krasnaya Zvezda. (Russia-US-Naval incident) Enditem
