NEW DELHI, June 8 (Xinhua) -- One of the Divisions of the Indian Railways has come out with a novel way of earning quick bucks by offering massaging services to the passengers.

The Ratlam Division of the Western Railway Zone has decided to introduce head massage and foot massage services for the passengers and charge 100 Indian Rupees (around 1.40 U.S. dollars) per passenger opting for the service, a senior Indian Railways official confirmed.

"The different Divisions of the Indian Railways were given a free hand to think over innovative idea and introduce new services or products so as to enable them to earn non-fare revenues. This is the sole decision of the Ratlam Division to introduce this service in 39 trains departing from Indore city in central state of Madhya Pradesh," Indian Railway Board Director (Media and Communication) Rajesh Bajpai told Xinhua over phone.

"This would be the first time when such services are going to be introduced in trains in India," added Bajpai.

The massage services are likely to be introduced in the 39 trains from coming July, another official at the Indian Railways said.

The Indian Railways had in May 2018 put out an official order directing all Railway Zones to promote new ideas and concepts related to passenger convenience and enhancing non-fare revenue, under the "New, Innovative Non Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme". Enditem
