CAPE TOWN, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in South African major news outlets on Sunday.

--The South African Airways (SAA) confirmed on Saturday that it would need billions of rand to survive the current financial year.

This came as outgoing CEO Vuyani Jarana announced his departure, after citing not receiving enough government support.(Eyewitness News)

--Reacting to the assassination attempt against Thami Zikode, chief audit executive of the South African Broadcasting Coroporation (SABC), SABC board chairperson Bongumusa Makhathini said on Saturday that the public broadcaster will not be intimidated in its clean-up campaign.
