TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held telephone talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday to discuss the Gulf situation prior to the Japanese leader's visit to Iran a day later.

BANGKOK -- Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn has formally appointed Prayut Chan-o-cha as prime minister.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia aims to lead the development of a circular economy in Southeast Asia, Malaysia's Minister of Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment Yeo Bee Yin said on Tuesday.

SEOUL -- South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will hold talks in Moscow next week with her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss situations on the Korean Peninsula, Seoul's foreign ministry said Tuesday.
