ALGIERS, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The Supreme Court in Algeria on Wednesday placed former Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia under custody on charges of involvement in corruption, state-run ENTV channel said.

The report said Ouyahia was heard by the examining magistrate at the Supreme Court over corruption charges, as he was remanded under investigative custody in El Harrach prison, southeast of the capital Algiers.

The broadcaster gave no further details.

The Supreme Court said last month that Ouyahia was one of a group of 12 former senior government officials involved in illegal conclusion of public contracts. Enditem
