Fresh operations kill 4 militants in northern Afghanistan

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, June 17 (Xinhua) -- At least four militants have been killed and two others injured as government forces launched fresh operations against Taliban fighters in Chardara district of Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province on Monday, police spokesman in the province Inamudin Rahmani said.

According to the police, the operations were launched at 3:00 a.m. local time and so far four insurgents have been killed and some villages have been retaken.

Taliban's main base in the area has been dismantled and two more insurgents sustained injuries, the police said.

The crackdown would continue until the area is cleansed of the insurgents, the police said, adding that no security personnel or civilians have been injured in the ongoing operations.
