KITALE, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan police on Monday arrested two Egyptian nationals for allegedly engaging in illegal trade in the northwestern town of Kitale.

Peter Kimalu, a Trans Nzoia County criminal investigation officer, said the two, identified as Osama Esaid Farahat and Mohammed Rustafa Elzamran, were found hawking kitchenware yet they had not been issued with working permits.

Traveling records indicated that Farahat entered Kenyan on May 19, 2019 through Kenya's border with Tanzania while Elzamran landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport the following day.

Kimalu said the two Egyptian nationals were on tourist visas.

"Working on intelligence reports we were able to arrest the two in Kiminini town. The two are in custody and we are planning to arraign them in court," said Kimalu.

The official said a multi-security agency has been deployed to investigate if the duo have any link to terrorist groups, adding that the foreigners will be charged in court before they were deported back to their country.

This came after two Britons were arrested in Kitale town over expired visas a fortnight ago and handed to the Anti-terrorism Police Unit in Nairobi. Enditem
