CANBERRA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming Group of 20 (G20) summit in Osaka, Japan will provide a chance for countries to seek ways for common development, an Australian university professor has said.

Qian Meijun, professor with the College of Business and Economics in the Australian National University, made the remarks in a recent interview with Xinhua.

"The summit this year is different from the previous ones because of the unusual international situations," she said.

The trade frictions between the United States and China could send ripples to other countries, and the Australian economy could be affected as well, she said.

Another issue that will grab attention at the G20 summit could be counter-terrorism, according to Qian. She said terrorism exists in different parts of the world, which is not something people would like to see.

Qian expressed hope that participating countries of the G20 summit could cooperate and act positively to reach some agreement, "which would be beneficial to people across the world." Enditem
