Foreign tourists' spending in S.Korea posts double-digit fall in Q1

SEOUL, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Foreign tourists' spending in South Korea posted a double-digit fall in the first quarter, a government report showed Tuesday.

The average per-capita spending by foreign tourists visiting the country amounted to 1,268 U.S. dollars in the first quarter, down 12.1 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The average spending continued to reduce for four straight quarters, posting the lowest in about 10 years. It marked the highest at 1,713 dollars in 2015.

During the January-March quarter, the spending by Chinese travelers stood at 1,735 dollars, followed by U.S. tourists with 1,103 dollars and Japanese travelers with 772 dollars each.

The average duration of stay here by foreign travelers was 6.9 days in the first quarter, down from 7 days tallied a year earlier.

The rate of foreign tourists, who re-visited the country, stood at 59.2 percent in the quarter, up 4 percentage points from a year ago. Enditem
