BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.09 percent, at 2,890.16 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.27 percent higher at 8,804.32 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Tuesday, snapping four-day losing streak, driven by select banks and IT stocks.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 39,046.34, 85.55 points or 0.22 percent up compared to its previous close at 38,960.79.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 66.80 points, or 1.08 percent, to a level of 6,257.33 on Tuesday.

Some 455,102 transactions were booked, involving 13.3 billion copies of shares with a value of 8 trillion rupiah (about 558.5 million U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.96 percent, or 30.74 points, to close at 3,238.73.

A total of 1.47 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.19 billion Singapore dollars (about 867.71 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 228 to 148.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 271.61 points, or 1.00 percent, to 27,498.77 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,201.02 and 27,584.12. Turnover totaled 71.05 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.07 billion U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 7.98 points, or 0.38 percent, to settle at 2,098.71. Trading volume stood at 584.4 million shares worth 4.3 trillion won (3.6 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market has ended sharply higher on Tuesday with all sectors making gains.
