VIENTIANE -- The Lao government will continue boosting human resource development in the railway sector to enlarge the labor force for key projects such as the China-Laos railway, local daily Vientiane Times reported on Wednesday.

MANILA -- An Asian Development Bank (ADB) report released on Wednesday said the Philippines local currency bond market was the second-fastest growing market in emerging East Asia in the first quarter of 2019, posting growth of 8.0 percent in local currency terms to 125.4 billion U.S. dollars, faster than the 5.3 percent on-quarter growth in the fourth quarter of 2018.

CANBERRA -- The number of international visitors to Australia hit 8.5 million in the 12 months to March 2019, with China being the biggest source of visitors, data released Wednesday revealed.

TOKYO -- A 6.7-magnitude earthquake striking Japan's northeastern region late Tuesday left at least 15 people injured with thousands forced to take shelter at evacuation centers, officials said Wednesday.

According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, of those injured, nine were in the hardest-hit region of Yamagata, four were in Niigata, one in Miyagi and another in Ishikawa prefecture. (Japan-Earthquake) Enditem
