SEOUL -- South Korean Unification Minister Kim Yeon-chul, the country's top policymaker in charge of inter-Korean affairs, told a televised press briefing Wednesday that his country will provide 50,000 tons of rice to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) through the World Food Program (WFP).

Kim said it would take around two months to deliver the country's homegrown rice to the DPRK through the WFP, noting that Seoul will make efforts to provide the rice as rapidly as possible. (SKorea-DPRK-Rice)

SEOUL -- South Korea on Wednesday called on Japan to compensate the South Korean victims of forced labor during World War II through funds from Japanese and South Korean firms, according to Seoul's foreign ministry.

TOKYO -- A magnitude-6.7 earthquake striking Japan's northeastern region late Tuesday left at least 26 people injured with thousands forced to take shelter at evacuation centers, officials said Wednesday.

According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, of those injured, seventeen were in the hardest-hit region of Yamagata, four were in Niigata and Miyagi prefectures and another in Ishikawa prefecture. (Japan-Earthquake) Enditem
