ANKARA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Turkey strongly supports the UN's call to probe into Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other senior officials over the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.

"Turkey strongly endorses UN Rapporteur Agnes Callamard's recommendations for elucidating Khashoggi's murder and holding those responsible accountable," Cavusoglu said on his Twitter.

Earlier on Wednesday, Agnes Callamard, the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, said in a report that "credible evidence" suggested Saudi top officials, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, are liable for the death of the journalist.

"The manner in which Khashoggi was detained and treated shortly before he was murdered would also constitute a violation of international human rights law," said the report.

The UN expert called on further investigations by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the FBI.

Callamard visited Turkey earlier this year with a team of forensic and legal experts. She said she received evidence from Turkish authorities, according to the report.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, was killed and dismembered by a group of Saudi operatives in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2, 2018. Enditem
