-- The Zambian government has been advised to waive tax on the import of copper concentrates because it has left most mining firms financially crippled.
Emmanuel Mbambiko, vice-president of the Kitwe District Chamber of Commerce, Trade and Industry, said the effects of introducing the 5 percent duty on copper concentrates has been disastrous in the mining sector. (Zambia Daily Mail)
-- The Young Women's Christian Association has appealed to authorities in Zambia to make child defilement offenses non-bailable to deter would be offenders.
Miriam Mwiinga, the association's program manager, said making the crime non-bailable would go a long way in curbing it. (Times of Zambia)
-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu says he is honored that the country's biggest public university has decided to confer a honorary doctorate degree on him but noted that he would prefer to be addressed as 'Mr Lungu'.
Lungu said he had not yet attained the academic Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in any discipline and should therefore be addressed as Mr Lungu. (Daily Nation)
