BANGKOK, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The Thai Ministry of the Interior has joined forces with state and private sectors to hold Tsunami evacuation and rescue drills in six southern provinces by the Andaman Sea on June 24-25, 2019.

The drill called "Integrated Disaster Management Exercise (IDMEx 2019)" was aimed at informing residents of warning announcement, villager evacuations, testing the tsunami warning systems, rehearsing operational protocols as according to the tsunami response and evacuation plans, encouraging villagers to be familiar with safe evacuation procedures, and raising the level of confidence among villagers and visitors to the region, in the government's disaster management capacity.

Chayapol Thitisak , director of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation director-general said it was vital to hold drills as many times as possible because intensities of tsunami eruptions may come without prior warnings.

The exercise this year focuses on evacuation and rescue operations from tsunami disaster in six tsunami-prone provinces - Krabi, Trang, Phang Nga, Phuket, Ranong, and Satun. Enditem
