BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.87 percent at 2,982.07.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.02 percent lower at 9,118.10.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Tuesday as it gained some momentum in late trading after remained flat for the initial period of the day. All the sectoral indices ended in the green led by metal, energy, auto, PSU bank, pharma, infra and FMCG. Midcap and Smallcap indices also ended higher.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 39,434.94, 311.98 points or 0.80 percent up compared to its previous close at 39,122.96.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved up 5.33 points, or 0.31 percent to close at 1,721.33 points.

Some 18.85 billion shares worth 65.14 billion baht (about 2.13 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.22 percent, or 7.26 points, to close at 3,304.27.

A total of 1.15 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.16 billion Singapore dollars (about 0.86 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 166 to 220.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,676.61, up 0.48 points or 0.03 percent, and the Emas was at 11,807.22, up 14.28 points or 0.12 percent.

WELLINGTON-- New Zealand stock market advanced for a third trading day on Tuesday.

The S&P/NZX 50 Index rose 29.98 points, or 0.29 percent, to 10,418.29. Within the index, 25 stocks increased, 17 decreased, and eight were unchanged. Turnover was 135.7 million New Zealand dollars.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 960.13 points on Tuesday, down 2.72 points, or 0.28 percent against the previous trading day.

Nearly 164.348 million shares worth 3.610 trillion Vietnamese dong (156.9 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, with prices of 104 stocks rising, 180 stocks decreasing, and 98 stocks remaining unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 104.15 points on Tuesday, down 0.63 points, or 0.6 percent from the previous trading session.

Nearly 24.9 million shares worth roughly 449.2 billion Vietnamese dong (19.5 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday. Specifically, foreign investors bought 456,101 shares valued at 10.3 billion Vietnamese dong (446,522 U.S. dollars), and sold 619,590 shares valued at over 13.8 billion Vietnamese dong (601,304 U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 327.02 points, or 1.15 percent, to 28,185.98 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,066.13 and 28,470.1. Turnover totaled 82.37 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 10.55 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index up 3.05 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 614.1.

A total of 5,968 shares worth 35.5 million riel (8,719 U.S. dollars) were traded.

MANILA-- Philippine shares closed 0.33 percent lower on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 26.49 points to 8034.09. The all-share index went down by 0.27 points, or 13.54 percent, to 4909.00.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) slipped 4.69 points, or 0.22 percent, to settle at 2,121.64. Trading volume stood at 632.6 million shares worth 4.2 trillion won (3.6 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks fell on Tuesday as concerns grew over the U.S.-Japan alliance after a report cast doubt on the future of their bilateral defense treaty and a stronger yen dented exporters.
