DAMASCUS, June 26 (Xinhua) -- At least one Turkish soldier was killed and three others wounded on Wednesday by an attack of Kurdish militia on a Turkish base in northern Syria, a war monitor reported.

The Kurdish militia fired projectiles on a Turkish base near the town of Basouta in northern Aleppo province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based watchdog group said the Turkish forces opened machine gun fire on the areas that the Kurdish fighters were positioned at with no reports on casualties among the Kurdish fighters.

The attack is not the first by Kurdish militia against Turkish forces in Syria.

On June 9, one Turkish soldier was killed and seven others were wounded by the Kurdish Protection Units (YPG) near the city of Tal Rifat in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

It's worth noting that the Turkish forces have several observation bases in northern Syria.

Throughout the Syrian prolonged crisis, the Turkish forces supported Syrian rebel groups and pushed them to attack Kurdish areas in northern Syria, stripping the YPG and allied Kurdish-led groups of key areas.

For Turkey, eliminating the Kurdish threats in northern Syria is a priority as Ankara deems the YPG a terror group, despite the fact that the Kurdish militia groups fought the Islamic State (IS) and stripped the terror-labeled group of key areas in eastern Syria. Enditem
