MANILA, June 28 (Xinhua) -- "Go For Gold Philippines" is set to break Guinness World Record for the most number of people dribbling basketballs simultaneously to raise the support for Philippine athletes who will be featured in FIBA World Cup and Southeast Asian (SEA) Games later this year.

"Go For Gold", the Philippine sports corporate social responsibility project, together with a local entertainment company announced on last Thursday that they set to hold the awareness raising event on July 22 at Mall of Asia, Metro Manila.

Jeremy Go, the patron of Go For Gold, said at least 10,000 basketball dribblers will be invited during the record-breaking attempt, stressing that the Guinness World Record attempt is their way of helping the Philippines welcome the SEA Games from November 30 to December 11 this year.

"Being in the SEA Games year, we want to be able to encourage a lot of Filipinos to be active in supporting our national athletes," Go said during a press conference.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is also supporting the objective as part of the partnership Go For Gold formed with FIBA to encourage more Filipinos to support the Philippines men's national basketball team in the coming World Cup in China.

Players, coaches and team officials from various Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and clubs from Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, a regional men's semi-professional basketball league, are anticipated to also join the record-breaking attempt, according to the press conference.

Furthermore, Go said they've partnered with at least 200 high school basketball teams and that delegates from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police are expected to join the event.

The only requirement for those willing to join the event is that they must be at least 16-years-old and can dribble a basketball.

The most number of people dribbling a basketball simultaneously was over 7,500 in an event organized by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in Rafah, Gaza Strip, Palestine on July 22, 2010. Enditem
