OSAKA, Japan -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) on Friday to make more efforts to cope with climate change and issues related to the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.

Guterres addressed reporters ahead of the G20 Osaka Summit that he will essentially mention the topics of climate change and the implementation of the 2030 agenda on the occasion as "in both, we are lagging behind." (Japan-G20-UN)

SEOUL -- Stephen Biegun, U.S. special representative for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) affairs, said Friday that his country was ready for talks with the DPRK to advance an agreement reached at the first DPRK-U.S. summit in Singapore last year.

The U.S. envoy made the remarks during a meeting in Seoul with Lee Do-hoon, South Korea's special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs, according to Seoul's foreign ministry. (South Korea-DPRK-Talks)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center (DMC), issued a severe heat warning for several districts across the island country on Friday as temperatures were expected to rise as high as 40 degrees Celsius.

In a statement, the DMC said that the heat advisory had been issued for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and districts such as Polonnaruwa, in North Central Sri Lanka, Batticaloa and Ampara in eastern Sri Lanka were urged to remain cautious. (Sri Lanka-Heat-Warning) Enditem
