BUDAPEST, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Hungarian Meteorological Service (OMSZ) issued a heat alert effective Monday, according to a statement published by the Hungarian news agency MTI.

In Hungary, a landlocked country, heat alerts are issued when the medium temperature is 27 degrees Celsius or above for at least three consecutive days.

"Daytime peaks are between 33 and 37 degrees Celsius, and ultraviolet radiation will be extremely strong," the statement said.

OMSZ also warned that people with normal skin type could get sunburnt in as little as 15-20 minutes.

"If possible, avoid being outside between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, when the radiation is the strongest," the statement said, underlining that children and the elderly should be especially looked after, as they are more prone to dehydration.

Authorities also said that people should avoid strenuous activities and hide from direct sunlight; wear loose, lightweight clothing; drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated; stay in the shade when outside; and never leave people or pets in a closed vehicle. Enditem
