SKOPJE, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Starting from July 1, North Macedonian citizens can apply for a 15 percent refund of the Value Added Tax (VAT) based on the government project "My VAT", director of the Public Revenue Office (PRO) Sanja Lukarevska told reporters at a press conference on Monday.

According to Lukarevska, all citizens above 15 and registered in the PRO system can benefit just by taking fiscal bills when purchasing products in the shops.

"We believe that citizens will insist on getting fiscal bills and refuse shopping in places where fiscal bills are not issued," Lukarevska said.

According to the regulations, the refund limit per person in a year is 28,800 Macedonian Denar (around 530 U.S. dollars).

Lukarevska said that the application "My VAT" used to scan the fiscal bills is already available to be downloaded by the citizens.

She added that the vulnerable categories and elderly people will be assisted by the PRO mobile teams and mobile tax counters as well as 80 volunteers.

The law on VAT refund, adopted last week by the parliament, aims to reduce informal economy and eliminate tax evasion. Enditem
