French defense minister says to provide more military support to Lebanon

BEIRUT, July 2 (Xinhua) -- French Defense Minister Florence Parly said on Tuesday that France is ready to boost the military capabilities of the Lebanese army, Lebanon's Presidency reported.

"We are proud of the military cooperation between the French and Lebanese armies and we are ready to further boost the military capabilities of the Lebanese army as pledged during Rome II conference," Parly was quoted as saying during her meeting with President Michel Aoun.

Meanwhile, Aoun thanked France for its military support for the Lebanese army while expressing his appreciation for France's participation in the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon.

Aoun emphasized Lebanon's keenness to enhance its ties with France on all levels.

The president also reiterated Lebanon's insistence on securing a safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.

Parly also met with House Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad Hariri, and discussed the potential of enhancing military ties between Lebanon and France.

Parly arrived in Lebanon on Monday evening to meet with Lebanese officials and discuss topics including military support and issues related to Syrian refugees in the country. Enditem
