KABUL -- Six security personnel and 35 militants have been killed as a clash erupted in the Kajran district of Afghanistan's central Daikundi province, provincial governor Ahla Rahmati said Wednesday.

The clash, according to Rahmati, broke out after the Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in central areas of the district Monday night and security forces returned fire, triggering a heavy gun battle. (Afghanistan-Clash)

MUMBAI -- The Death toll in the Chiplun dam breach on Tuesday night in Ratnagiri district of India's western state of Maharashtra rose to six, with at least 20 people missing, the district administration said on Wednesday.

At least 12 houses from a nearby hamlet adjacent to the dam were washed away.

TOKYO -- Around 600,000 people have been ordered to evacuate in the city of Kagoshima in Japan's southwest, public broadcaster NHK said here Wednesday.

The evacuation order came as torrential rain continues to pummel southwest Japan, with Kyushu Island, which comprises Kagoshima City, the capital of Kagoshima Prefecture, one of the hardest-hit regions. (Japan-Rain)

WELLINGTON -- A derailment on Tuesday night in Wellington has left 20,000 commuters affected on Wednesday morning.

The Wellington transport operator said that a freight train derailed on Tuesday night, damaging the rail track. As a result, most Wellington train services are cancelled on Wednesday, with the Johnsonville line trains the only exception. (New Zealand-Derailment) Enditem
