MANILA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 80 people fell ill during former president's wife Imelda Marcos' 90th birthday celebration on Wednesday in Pasig city located along the eastern border of Metro Manila, police said.
Pasig City Police Chief Col. Rizalito Gapas said the victims who suffered abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting were taken to different hospitals.
Initial investigations showed suspected food poisoning after people ate adobo, a popular Filipino dish of pork slices cooked in soy sauce, vinegar and garlic. A further investigation is underway to determine the food that sickened the guests.
Gapas said an estimated 2,500 people attended the event held at a sports arena.
Senator Richard Gordon, also the chairman of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), tweeted earlier that they transported three patients to Rizal Medical Center and assisted 25 other individuals.
