TOKYO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday as investor sentiment turned positive following U.S. share's solid showing overnight on increased expectations the U.S. Federal Reserve will cut its interest rate.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 64.29 points, or 0.30 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,702.45.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 10.24 points, or 0.65 percent, to finish at 1,589.78.
Marine transportation, electric power and gas, and information and communication-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play. Enditem
