NEW DELHI -- Petrol, diesel and gold are set to become costlier in India in the days to come after federal government Friday proposed to increase taxes while presenting the annual general budget.

The prices of petrol and diesel are set to rise by INR 2 per liter in the country as federal Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed an increase of special additional excise duty as well as road and infrastructure cess by INR 1 per liter each on automobile fuels. (India-Budget-Tax)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has met with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew and expressed the country's concerns over the display of anti-Pakistan banners during a recent cricket World Cup match held in Britain, local media reported Friday.

SEOUL -- South Korea's ruling Democratic Party on Friday asked the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to participate in the South Korea-hosted world swimming competition set to open next week.

Lee Hae-chan, chairman of the Democratic Party, told a supreme council meeting that he wanted to sincerely ask the DPRK once again to join in the world swimming championships to serve the meaning of the competition's slogan "Dive into Peace" better through the DPRK's participation. KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Six security personnel have been confirmed dead as a clash erupted in Miwand district of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Thursday night, district police chief Hajji Lala said Friday.

A group of Taliban militants, according to the official, stormed security checkpoints in Miwand bazaar area of Miwand district late Thursday night, triggering a gun battle. During the battle, six police personnel were killed and four others injured. (Afghanistan-Militants) Enditem
